Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Anniversary
The New Year is already one month old, but nevertheless we still keep all the nice memories in mind. Christmas was celebrated in the colors white and silver, whereas the change of the years shimmered completely under “… a touch of gold”. Please find a few impressions here.
On 27th January Mirihi became 9 years old. Certainly we celebrated this event extensively. In the afternoon we hosted again a football team from our neighbor island Vilamendhoo for a breathtaking match in our Mirihi-stadium. Like already last year our team had again the honor of going through a tough training with the Maldivian football legend “Kuda Moosa” for several days before the match. The weather was perfect and the tribune was fully occupied with a supporting audience while the two teams had a thrilling neck-and-neck match going on. Of course our team again didn’t disappoint their famous coach and won this match well deserved with the great result of 4:2. Please find some pictures here.
In the evening along with a memorable party, our employees of the year were crowned. The lucky winners are: Shiham from F&B service & Fernando from Housekeeping. Congratulations!
Christmas / New Year
And again another year is almost over… This time we will celebrate Christmas on Mirihi in the colors White & Silver, whereas the New Years Eve will shimmer under the Motto … a touch of Gold.
As always our F&B Team will present their highest culinary skills and Glenn Aitken will complete the festive atmosphere with terrific live music. Let us already seduce you to a small taste of what is to come. We are looking forward seeing you here on Mirihi … as unique as you!

As always, we have with our guests a very open and honest communication.
As many of you know, we had planned a major refurbishment-project in summer 2012. These plans have now changed and we will only realize this refurbishment 1 to maximum 2 years later.
As obvious from the beginning, based on the condition and the building structure of the resort, a refurbishment in summer 2012 is not yet necessary. Due to the very good condition of the infrastructure, a refurbishment according to the norm would only have to find place in the year 2015, but certainly we will not wait that long. In a word: A refurbishment only in 2015 would be too late, but in 2012 it would be too early based on the below mentioned factors:
Never the less and as always, we will certainly continue to invest a lot in the resort. With investments in maintenance, soft-renovations but as well focused on further improvements regarding quality and service standards.
So as well in summer 2012, Mirihi will be available for you. Therefore please find here our rate sheets for winter 2011/2012 and for summer 2012, please pay special attention to the sections “Discount for Early Bookings”, which certainly also will be bookable via all our contracted Tour-Operators.
Well then, so far we have a great, sunny and very successful summer 2011 and we are very much looking forward to the future and towards the summer 2012 – together with you!

Anniversary: On 27th of January Mirihi was celebrating its 8th anniversary since the opening in 2003. We celebrated this day with a thrilling football match in Mirihi-Stadium against the team of Vilamendhoo Island Resort in the afternoon. Even though it was raining, the audience was in their highest spirit and giving full support to our team. Mirihi had the great honor of hosting “Kuda Moosa”, the Maldivian football legend to take our team through some tough days of professional training. No doubt they didn’t disappoint the legendary coach and won this match with the outstanding result of 8:3! Congratulations!! Please click here for some pictures of the great day.

Dear Mirihi-Family; guests, friends and partners,
On the 3rd of September I realized that a long term dream of mine had been fulfilled. With great anticipation I stepped onto this beautiful island on a sunny day and suddenly became aware of how wide awake I was!
From that very first day, the Mirihi Family gave me the feeling of being part of it; through their genuine warmth and charisma they confirmed that my decision to become part of it was the correct one.
The former General Manager Martin Vossen, who after 4 successful years decided to rise to a new challenge, was on-site to assure a smooth handover. I would like to thank him sincerely for his assistance and knowledge; he not only worked on this island, he lived this island until the last day and he could inform me of its every detail.
7 weeks have already flown by …wow… In addition my partner Lea has arrived on the island and joins the guest relations team.
We are looking forward to everything that is to come and know it will be fabulous.

It is with deep regret that we share the news that on June 17th, 2010 , Tiger our beloved cat passed away in his sleep. Sweet and wonderful as he was in his 20 years of wonderful life, the death also came peacefully in sleep. Thus was fulfilled an endearing life of the sweetest cat who ever lived in paradise. He will be deeply and lovingly missed by everyone who has come across him. And while we thank our innumerous wonderful guests who have always been kind and caring about him, we bid farewell to one of the most precious member of our Mirihi family. Rest in peace Tiger. You will be missed…forever.

On January 01st we finally opened our new football pitch with the opening match „Gardeners against Managers“. The tribune was sold out with fans, guests and staff. After 75 minutes the garders celebrated their well-deserved win with 12:2. The final match was battled between Housekeeping and Marine section. After a hard game, the Housekeeping guys were crowned as the Mirihi Football Champions. Once again – Congratulations! The proud Mirihi Champions – click here!
We are pleased to inform you, that our Ocean Pro dive team has created a new underwater movie! This movie will be presented every Tuesday evening at 21:00 hrs during our Divers Night at the beach cinema. Enjoy a drink and the fascination of the underwater world around Mirihi!

Since the beginning of December a new private excursion is available at Mirihi Island! What better way to enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Maldives than sailing through it? Lay on the trampoline of our Topcat K2 Catamaran and enjoy the sun while Captain Shuja takes you for a ride around the island or to a snorkeling point. You can also charter the Cat for half a day and visit a neighbor island or a sand bank close by. This twin-hull fiberglass boat is 5.17 meters long and the mast height is 8.2 meters. Maldives elects a new President
Bringing an end to President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s 30 year old rule, a political activist Mohamed Nasheed (41yrs), has won the first ever multi party election held in the Maldives. The new President took oath of office on November 11th, 2008 becoming the first president elected under the new constitution that came into force on October 07th, 2008.
This election represents the finale of a complete overhauling of the Maldives’ entire political system to introduce modern democracy to the islands.

If you have been at the Maldives lately, you may have witnessed the seldom coral blooming; especially from the seaplane you were able to see the brown-reddish discoloration of the sea. Also at Mirihi we had some of the “pollen” washed ashore. Even though a coral blooming is rather awkward on the beach – please remember that this is the best sign that the corals are growing.

With our new very powerful state-of-the-art Celestron CPC 11” telescope; we are now able to explore the limitless universe and its splendor. With the help of telescope’s database of 40’000 celestial objects we can take a closer look at the planets, galaxies and nebulae. Become overwhelmed about the unbelievable greatness of the outer space and its diversity. Furthermore you get to know every detail of these objects, such as the distance from earth, age, size, etc. We are busy practicing and can hopefully start to present it to our guests very soon.

New Excursion Rates – After keeping the same rates for three years we were forced to raise the rates for excursions and boat-rentals. We are pleased to inform you about our new Dhoni Mirihi-Handu . It is a Dhivehi name and means “moon” in English. This white fiberglass-boat is equipped with a V6 motor and 250 hp. Besides the speedboats, Handu is now the fastest boot Mirihi has. We will use it for excursions and mainly for diving.
At the end of June there was the “Hotel Asia Exhibition & Culinary Challenge 2008” in Male. Six of our chefs and our bar captain Rajan attended the competition. We are very happy and we proudly announce that out of the 200 competitors all of our seven team-members have won a medal – Three silver and four bronze medals – Congratulations!

Regards from tropical Mirihi… Last month the weather was very typical for April – a mix of sun, clouds, rain and wind. This is the time of the year when the monsoon winds change and the “rainy” season starts. However Mirihi is still a little paradise. Looking back to last year we can tell in June and July the weather was beautiful. And we still have rooms available for these months. The warmth, the fish and the beautiful house reef are waiting for you as well in summer!

Night Snorkeling at Mirihi House Reef - Explore the beautiful Mirihi house reef by snorkeling at night! You will be able to observe sleeping fish, to see different kind of night-active creatures and the corals seem to be even more colorful.
